Blog Post #3: "Bear Came Along" Written by: Richard T. Morris and Illustrated by: LeUyen Pham. Caldecott Medal Honor Book from 2020

 

The book I choose for this week’s blog post is, “Bear Came Along”, written by Richard T. Morris and illustrated by LeUyen Pham. This book was a Caldecott Medal Honor winner book for 2020. This book had such wonderful illustrations that flowed with the entire book. The words on the page even matched the theme of that particular page as well. The illustration also did a good job of bringing out the bear and various animal personalities through the illustrations. This book was about a bear who continuously made new friends on his way along the river while riding on a log. Throughout the journey, the bear picked up a frog, turtles, a beaver, a few raccoons, and a duck. They come to a waterfall that has a steep drop and each animal holds onto another animal until they are all conjoined together while having a blast enjoying the ride down the waterfall together. All in all, the book would be also read to younger children and would be a great way to introduce them to new animals. With the adorable storyline and fantastic images that capture all of the action taking place, this book is also great for team building and bonding activities.

My phrase for this year is, “The End of an Era” because this year is my last year to be a student in college, competing as a track and field athlete, and the last few months with my last name before being married. Blog #8: "Assignment Content"

  As I read through the "Teaching Diverse Types of Notebook Entries", I found that the two entries that I would like my future students to use within my content area would be starting with “Little, nearby things'' and then asking “How Am I feeling?” and then “When was Another Time I Felt This Same Way?”. First as it pertains to starting with the “Little, nearby things”, I feel that this is an extremely important thing for students to be able to do. To start with simple things that are in their surroundings and allow them to come up with thoughts and ideas about them is a way for them to think more on their feet. By doing this, I feel like it is allowing your students to become more creative with their way of thinking and will assist in them thinking more outside of the box. Blog Post #7: Poetry Books

 “Poetree” Author: Shaun a LaVoy Reynolds Illustrator: Shahrzad Maydani A very cute story that starts out with a little girl named Sylvia writing poems to a tree. Sylvia starts by going to the park with her dog, Shel, and she begins writing a poem and reading it to a squirrel that was in a tree. The squirrel seemed to enjoy her poem, so she tied it to the tree. The next day she returns to the park she realizes her poem is still there, but as it turns out it was a different poem, one she thought the tree had written back to her. They go back and forth with new poems and Syliva is filled with so much joy because she feels that she has found a friend in the tree. She does not seem to have all that many friends at school, but counts on her dog, Shel the most. One day, after Sylvia, composes one of her best poems, Walt is standing there staring at the poem he had written for the tree in her pocket.
