Blog Post #2: My Literacy Experiences From Secondary School

I would not say that my literacy experiences during my secondary school years were negative by any means. I remember being able to read books/poems such as: “The Outsiders”, “Of Mice and Men”, “The Odyssey”, “Lord of the Flies”, “1984”, “Night”, “The Diary of Anne Frank”, “Number the Stars”, “The Great Gatsby”, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, “Hamlet” and, “Macbeth”. These are the most rememberable pieces of literacy that I was able to recall, mostly because they left some sort of impact on me whether it may have been a story that I had never heard of or imagined, or perhaps the content that was inside the story, or even the uniqueness that the story processed.  I also would have to say that the English teachers that I had throughout my secondary school years did a really good job about how they would present the books to us. They would do a really great job of hooking us with something catchy in order to capture our attention where we would be very intrigued with what we were going to be...

Blog Post #1: Encouraged

My phrase for this year is, “The End of an Era” because this year is my last year to be a student in college, competing as a track and field athlete, and the last few months with my last name before being married. This year represents a lot of “lasts” in my life. A chapter that is coming to a close. The final curtain call for certain areas in my life, but the beginning and “firsts” to come. I am at a point in my life where I am trying my best to enjoy and live in each and every moment and not take anything for granted. The other part of me is looking ahead with excitement at all of the possibilities of what the future has in store.  However, the word that I have chosen for this semester and year would be: Encouraged. I chose this word because I took the quiz that Dr. Giles had provided on Padlet and went through and answered the various questions asked and it generated this word for me.
