Blog Post #3: "Slice of Life"

As I read the blog post and learned about the “Slice of Life” challenge, I am reminded just how important writing is. For my “Slice of Life” blog post, I would like to go back into time when I was a little girl who used to keep a daily diary. I believe I would put the date of each day on the top of my diary, in order to keep track of the days whenever certain events would occur. I used this diary to find an escape through writing and also as a way to document the various activities that may have been going on in my life at the time. At first, looking back on the diary seemed a bit childlike, but as I have grown older I began to realize just how important it was for me to write. Writing in my diary after a long day and recalling all the things that happened throughout the day and expressing my emotions through words was an escape somehow from the real world. Having to write about even the simplest things still made writing a habit and a good practice. I feel that even at a young age, I found importance in documenting life, so I would make sure I would not forget about it and allow for it to pass me by. Writing after a long day brought me joy and allowed me to reveal secrets that I was able to keep to myself.

I hope that when I begin to teach, I am able to incorporate writing into my mathematics classroom in some form or fashion. Although it may not be related to the mathematics content I am teaching, I hope that I can allow my students to be given the chance to express themselves through writing. When given the opportunity to write, I would like to be able to share my writing with my students, so that we could create a safe environment for everyone in the classroom.
